Warner Bros. is developing a reimagining of the 1993 family adventure film “Free Willy,” produced by Anthony and Joe Russo’s AGBO. The studio has hired writers Mary-Margaret Kunze and Jade Halley Bartlett to write the screenplay for the new movie. The original film, about an orphaned boy who befriends a captive orca, grossed $153.7 million worldwide on a $20 million budget and spawned multiple sequels and an animated series. AGBO’s Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Kassee Whiting will produce, with executive producers including the Russo brothers and Lauren Shuler Donner.
