Male testosterone levels halved in 50 years, scientists report
A single-source report from The Guardian states that scientists have found that men’s average testosterone levels have halved over the past 50 years. The researchers behind the work suggest society is facing a male fertility crisis. Rising levels of obesity and diabetes are expected to play a part in the decline. The team also suggests that environmental factors such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in household items and global heating could be factors. The Guardian’s Ian Sample spoke to science correspondent Hannah Devlin to discuss how the work has been received and what the researchers want to see happen in response.
