Threads reaches 500M monthly users, adds personalization and community features
Meta-owned social platform Threads has reached 500 million monthly active users, the company announced Tuesday, nearly three years after launching as a competitor to X. The platform also introduced new features, including a “Your Algo” tool that lets users privately control what they see in their feed without posting publicly. The tool allows users to request more or less of certain topics for one, three, or seven days, and is rolling out in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Threads is also bringing “Communities” out of beta, adding a Communities Hub and distinct icons for easier discovery. The platform is expanding Live Chats to more communities, with the ability to co-host chats and quote moments to feeds, and all communities will be able to start Live Chats by July. The 500 million monthly active user milestone represents an addition of 100 million users in the past 10 months, following the company’s August 2025 announcement of 400 million monthly active users.
