James Norton is set to play the title role in a new London West End production of “Hamlet,” directed and conceived by Thomas Ostermeier. Producers Wessex Grove and Gavin Kalin Productions are bringing the show to the West End in fall 2027, though a theater and specific dates are yet to be confirmed. The staging will be Ostermeier’s debut directing Shakespeare in English. Ostermeier’s previous production of “Hamlet” has been touring internationally for 18 years. Norton stated that taking on the role is both a privilege and terrifying, but expressed confidence in Ostermeier’s direction. Ostermeier said he is pleased to revisit “Hamlet” with Norton, whom he called a perfect Prince of Denmark. Norton most recently appeared on stage in Ivo Van Hove’s adaptation of “A Little Life” in the West End. On screen, he is currently seen in HBO’s “House of the Dragon” and will next appear in Sam Mendes’ four-film event “The Beatles.”
