Jesse Eisenberg Declined Role in ‘The Social Reckoning’ Sequel

9 reported

Jesse Eisenberg told Variety he turned down the opportunity to reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg in Aaron Sorkin's sequel to "The Social Network," titled "The Social Reckoning." Eisenberg discussed the decision at the Los Angeles premiere of "Minions & Monsters," describing Sorkin as articulate, charming, and bright. He stated that after several days of conversations, he informed Sorkin he is moving in different directions in his life and does not want to be associated with the character. Eisenberg emphasized that his reasons for declining were unrelated to the quality of the film, which he believes will be wonderful. Earlier in June, Sorkin told Vanity Fair he spent three days trying to convince Eisenberg to return, but the actor no longer wanted to be conflated with the tech mogul. The role of Zuckerberg in "The Social Reckoning" has been taken by Jeremy Strong. The film follows Facebook engineer Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, whose 2021 investigative series exposed Facebook's damaging effects on teens and its role in circulating misinformation.
