PSG win leads to overnight clashes, then peaceful parade in Paris

Paris Saint-Germain’s second Champions League title victory, secured in a penalty shootout against Arsenal in Budapest, triggered violent overnight celebrations across France before giving way to a peaceful afternoon parade near the Eiffel Tower. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez reported 780 people were detained in Paris and other cities, with 57 officers wounded, most with minor injuries, as fans set fires and vandalized shops. Nuñez said the situation was largely under control by Sunday and noted that most incidents occurred in the Champs Elysees neighborhood and near the Parc des Princes stadium. Planned celebrations at the Champ de Mars went ahead as scheduled under high security, drawing up to 100,000 supporters. PSG players, led by captain Marquinhos, coach Luis Enrique, and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, lifted the trophy as the club anthem played. French President Emmanuel Macron later hosted the team at the Elysee presidential palace, condemning the violence and stating, “This must end.”
