Sky pledges £2bn to ITV Studios as takeover of ITV broadcasting arm nears
Sky has committed to spending £2bn on ITV’s studios business over the next five years as it finalizes a takeover of ITV’s broadcasting arm, according to a report. The £1.6bn takeover deal, which could be announced in early July, involves separating ITV’s channels and streaming platform ITVX from ITV Studios, which would remain a standalone company listed on the London Stock Exchange. Sky, owned by US telecoms company Comcast, has been in talks for months to buy ITV’s media and entertainment operations. The spending pledge is not new money but continues an existing arrangement, according to a source. The deal is expected to face scrutiny from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority and Ofcom. Sky and ITV declined to comment.
