Nicolas Cage Receives Innovation Award, Hints at More TV Work
Nicolas Cage accepted the Innovation Award at the IndieWire Honors ceremony in Hollywood on Thursday, June 4, and suggested his first television role in “Spider-Noir” will not be his last. Cage stated that the episodic format has allowed him to experiment with performance in ways equal to or beyond his cinema work, calling it an extremely rewarding new adventure. He expressed hope to continue exploring television to express his performance dreams. Cage thanked producers Amy Pascal, Katherine Pope, former Amazon Studios executive Jen Salke, Amazon MGM Studios global TV head Peter Friedlander, creator Oren Uziel, and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for converting his “Spider-Noir” character from the animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” into a live-action series. In an interview ahead of the event, Cage said he is not interested in superheroes but in the psyche and different acting styles, and that “Spider-Noir” was a rare chance to play a hard-boiled gumshoe type. He also expressed hope that younger audiences might be inspired to watch classic film noir movies.
