Netflix’s live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Season 2 follows Aang’s journey to learn earthbending from Toph Beifong, as in the original Nickelodeon show. The season includes a conspiracy within Ba Sing Se’s government and the discovery of a solar eclipse that will prevent firebending. Showrunner Christine Boylan and executive producer Jabbar Raisani told Variety about changes from the animated series, including cutting sandbending and the episode “The Drill.” They also moved Katara’s “Painted Lady” arc from Season 3 into Season 2. Raisani said the drill sequence was in the plan until a late stage but had to be removed due to production constraints. Boylan noted that elements from cut episodes were repurposed into other episodes or Season 3.
