Neon Sets October Release for Palme d’Or Winner ‘Fjord’

9 reported

Neon has scheduled the Palme d’Or-winning film “Fjord” for an Oct. 9 release, according to a report from Variety. The movie, directed by Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as parents in a Romanian family with strict religious beliefs who move to a small village in Norway. After bruises are noticed on their daughter’s body at school, their five children are taken away, leading to a legal saga. Variety’s Guy Lodge described the film as a “brilliantly knotted social drama.” The release date matches that of Neon’s prior Palme winners, including “Parasite,” “Anora,” and “Anatomy of a Fall,” all of which received Oscar nominations, with “Parasite” and “Anora” winning best picture. Mungiu previously won the Palme d’Or in 2007 for “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” and has since earned best screenplay and best director prizes at Cannes. Neon has achieved a record seven consecutive Palme d’Ors, starting with “Parasite” and continuing through “Fjord.”
