According to a single source, independent film distributor Neon is reportedly exploring a launch in the U.K. market. The U.S. company, which also operates an international sales division, is said to be consulting former Studiocanal U.K. boss Danny Perkins about a potential U.K. operation. Neon has recently begun including U.K. rights in its acquisition deals alongside North America, securing rights for several Cannes titles and partnering with local distributors such as Picturehouse. The company is known for its streak of seven Palme d’Or winners and backing Oscar best picture winners like “Anora” and “Parasite.” Entering the U.K. distribution market is described as difficult and expensive, but Neon’s slate of award-winning and commercial titles could support its success. The news was first reported by Variety’s sister publication Deadline, and Variety has reached out to Neon and Perkins for comment.
