Meta to ban some smart glasses content from Instagram
Meta has announced it will ban certain content filmed with its smart glasses from Instagram, according to a Business Insider report cited by The Verge. Instagram head Adam Mosseri stated that content “taking advantage of people and harassing them, like a lot of these pickup line kind of videos,” would be removed. The policy comes amid public backlash over privacy concerns and reports of users filming strangers without consent, with some referring to the glasses as “pervert glasses.” Meta spokesperson Albert Aydin told The Verge the company is working on disabling cameras on glasses when tampering is detected and removing content from accounts associated with those devices. Aydin did not answer specific questions about whether individuals filmed could appeal to Meta for content removal, nor did he provide a copy of the actual policy. The Verge notes that the ban leaves gray areas, such as content filmed in homeless encampments or at gyms, and does not address harassment filmed without smart glasses.
