Anne Hathaway said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that she spent a week preparing to play Harley Quinn before a meeting with Christopher Nolan for “The Dark Knight Rises,” believing he was casting the Batman villain. It was not until two hours into their conversation that Nolan told her the role was Catwoman. Hathaway said she then changed her demeanor “like a psychopath” to adapt. She won the part and earned acclaim for playing Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the film. Hathaway has since worked with Nolan on “Interstellar” and the upcoming “The Odyssey,” which is scheduled for release July 17 from Universal Pictures. She has credited Nolan with saving her career amid backlash after her Oscar win for “Les Misérables,” stating that many people would not give her roles due to her toxic online identity.
