Hampshire police chief apologizes for arresting Henry Nowak

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Chief Constable Alexis Boon has apologized for the arrest and handcuffing of Henry Nowak, who was later stabbed to death by Vickrum Digwa. Boon told the BBC that the footage of the incident was “a tragedy” and that he understands why the family is upset with police. He stated the force is “sorry for handcuffing and arresting Henry at that time” and noted an independent investigation is underway. Separately, a former police officer, Christi Hill, has been forced into hiding after being falsely linked online to Nowak’s arrest. The home secretary, Shabana Mahmood, said a male officer had also been misidentified and had to move out of his home. In other news, Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey called Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s apology over the 1972 killing of five people in Belfast an “important moment” for the families. The Russian ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin, was summoned by the Foreign Office after a Russian drone struck a building in Romania, injuring two people.
