Football coaches train with military in Herefordshire exercise

6 reported

A group of football coaches studying for their Uefa Pro Licence participated in a two-day military-style exercise in Herefordshire, according to a report from BBC News. The training, run by the company Fieri, included simulated explosions, ambush rescues, and tourniquet application. Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey and ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero were among those who responded to a mock casualty with fake blood. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) pro licence course has been described as the "Harvard of football coaching" and counts Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta among its graduates. Participants included former US international Michael Bradley, Champions League winner Florent Malouda, and Wales international Will Vaulks. Former US international Ella Masar is taking the course while 36 weeks pregnant. Matt Johns, a former military commander who founded Fieri, said the training places coaches in unfamiliar environments under pressure to help them learn about leadership.
