Chloe Fineman said “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels was watching a World Cup match when she called to inform him she was leaving the show. Fineman told Variety at the premiere of Apple TV’s “The Dink” that Michaels said he would call her back because he was at the game. She made a joke about him rooting for England because he is “energetically very British.” Fineman said she cried when the news of her exit was announced and that cast members are like family. She announced her departure on July 16 via Instagram, writing that after seven seasons she felt it was time for her next chapter. Fineman joined “SNL” in 2019 and became known for impressions including Jennifer Coolidge, Timothée Chalamet, and Britney Spears. Her first post-“SNL” role will be a series regular in Netflix’s “Myron Bolitar” series.
