CEO argues gaming data may surpass internet for AI training
General Intuition, a Bezos-backed startup valued at $2.3 billion, has closed a $320 million funding round with investors including Coatue, Eric Schmidt, and researchers at MIT and Google DeepMind. CEO Pim de Witte argues that video game data could be superior to internet data for training artificial general intelligence (AGI). He stated that large language models like ChatGPT and Claude are skilled at text but less capable of understanding movement through space and time, a skill he says is essential for generalizing intelligence. The company, based in New York, spun out of gaming platform Medal TV. De Witte discussed these views on the TechCrunch Equity podcast, also addressing ethical red lines regarding potential defense applications of the technology.
