Amoroso’s Bakery Produces Over 250 Million Cheesesteak Rolls Annually
Amoroso’s Baking Co. has been producing bread for Philadelphia cheesesteaks for more than a century, according to a report from Eater. The factory operates around the clock to produce over 250 million cheesesteak and hoagie rolls each year. Each 800-pound batch of dough yields 2,500 rolls. The facility receives about 200,000 pounds of hard red spring wheat flour weekly. Rolls are fermented for several hours in a cold room before proofing, then scored by hand and baked in one of the largest ovens in an independent baking facility in the country. The rolls travel 135 feet through the oven for about 20 minutes. After baking, they are packaged and delivered to grocery stores, sandwich shops, and Lincoln Financial Field. Amoroso’s supplies more than 2,000 dozen rolls for Philadelphia Eagles home games and delivers about 65 dozen rolls daily to Dalessandro’s Steaks & Hoagies.
