Steam Machine Launch Priced at $1,049, Performance Comparable to PS5
Valve announced its Steam Machine, a living-room gaming PC running SteamOS, will be available in two storage configurations starting at $1,049. The device is powered by a custom AMD processor with RDNA3 integrated graphics and is designed to offer a console-like experience with access to Steam’s game library. Reviewers have found the Steam Machine’s performance comparable to a PlayStation 5. Valve stated it is not using the traditional console model of selling hardware at a loss and instead views the Steam Machine as an extension of PC gaming. The high price reflects increased component costs due to global shortages of RAM and storage, which have also driven up prices for other consoles. A Steam Controller can be bundled with either model for an additional $79.
