Woad aims to convert LPGA win into US Open success

Lottie Woad, Britain’s leading female golfer, is preparing for the Women’s US Open at Riviera Country Club after her first professional win in the United States at the Kroger Queen City event in Cincinnati last month. The 22-year-old Englishwoman rose to fifth in the world rankings following that victory. To intensify preparation, she flew coach Luke Bone from Surrey, England to Florida for practice instead of competing in the Shoprite LPGA event in New Jersey. Woad stated she wanted to reset and get work done away from tournament settings before the major. She also resolved a putting issue by regripping her putter after a poor performance at the Mizuho Americas Open earlier in the month. Woad beat a quality field including Haeran Ryu, Miyu Yamashita, and Ruoning Yin to win by two shots. She will compete in the US Open as a professional for the first time, having posted high finishes in the past three majors as an amateur.
