Scheffler misses first cut in four years as McIlroy leads Scottish Open
Scottie Scheffler’s streak of 78 consecutive cuts made over four years ended at the Genesis Scottish Open, where he shot a two-over 72 in the second round to finish on level par, two strokes shy of the cut line. Rory McIlroy posted a 66 to retain a share of the lead at nine under alongside England’s Jordan Smith, who shot 63, and South Korea’s Tom Kim. Scheffler, the world number one and four-time major winner, said he did not feel he played badly but acknowledged nothing went right on the course. He noted this was his second missed cut at the Renaissance Club and was non-committal about returning next year. McIlroy, who trailed early starter Smith by four shots before teeing off, made four birdies in his opening eight holes and described his round as a good day despite crosswinds. Patrick Cantlay, Ludvig Aberg, and Brooks Koepka also missed the cut, while Jon Rahm advanced with a 65.
