Saudi-led coalition strikes Houthi-held Hodeida in Yemen
The Saudi-led coalition confirmed attacks on the Houthi-held Yemeni port city of Hodeida on Friday, according to comments carried by Saudi broadcaster Al-Arabiya. The coalition stated it did not strike the city's port and had only targeted "military" sites, adding that all ports in the governorate remain open to shipping. Houthi-aligned media reported that airstrikes hit facilities belonging to the telecommunications authority and also struck Kamaran Island in the Red Sea. The attacks follow Houthi claims of responsibility for strikes on several Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea in recent days, as part of a blockade targeting Saudi vessels. The Houthis have denied completely closing the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, stating the blockade only targets the Saudi side. The EU naval mission ASPIDES has raised its threat level for merchant ships in the Red Sea due to Houthi actions.
