Mamdani: Honoring queer and transgender contributions would take more than 30 days

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani marked the beginning of June’s Pride Month with a Monday post on X, stating it would take longer than one month to honor the ways in which “queer and transgender” residents have benefited the city. Mamdani referenced historical groups and events including the Cercle Hermaphroditos in 1895, the drag balls of the Harlem Renaissance, the Stonewall uprising, the Lesbian Herstory Archives, and ACT UP! founded in 1987. He said queer and transgender New Yorkers deserve a city where they can “afford to live safely, openly, and joyfully.” The Democratic National Committee also posted on X marking Pride Month. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Vice President Kamala Harris issued separate supportive posts.
