Male testosterone levels halved in 50 years, scientists report
Scientists have reported that average testosterone levels in men have halved over the past 50 years, according to a single-source report from The Guardian. The researchers behind the work suggest society is facing a male fertility crisis. Rising levels of obesity and diabetes are expected to play a part in the decline. The team also suggests that environmental factors such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in household items and global heating could be factors. The Guardian’s science correspondent Hannah Devlin discussed the findings and the researchers’ desired response with Ian Sample on a podcast.
