Joker Anime Series ‘Laugh Riot’ Announced at Annecy Festival
At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation announced three new greenlit DC series, including Joker: Laugh Riot, an original adult animated project described as DC's first-ever anime series. The series is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Animation, DC Studios, and SOLA Entertainment. According to the announcement, the story takes place after Batman is murdered, and the Joker becomes a detective seeking to learn who killed his nemesis, gradually becoming more like the vigilante he fought. Yasuhuro Aoki, a veteran from The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim animation department and director of the 2025 film ChaO, is directing the series, with Jim Krieg serving as executive producer. No premiere date or network has been announced for the project.
