According to a WIRED report, the X account of Patrick Bewley, a gay OnlyFans creator known as Daddy Patrick, was hacked in April and subsequently filled with pro-MAGA propaganda. Bewley is one of several gay OnlyFans creators WIRED spoke to who were targeted by crypto scams on X, where attackers attempt to extort money to return accounts. The hack began when Bewley clicked a link sent via direct message from a coworker whose account had already been compromised. After Bewley refused to pay a $2,000 ransom in GAT crypto, the attacker messaged his employer demanding $3,000. Bewley’s account was changed to feature a banner and avatar of Steve Bannon and began reposting 20 to 30 posts daily from extremist Republican pages. Bewley says he filed a police report in Palm Springs and a report with the FBI, but X did not respond to a request for comment. The account went inactive in May after all posts were wiped, leaving only the followers and a linktree to Bannon’s platforms.
What’s reported
Patrick Bewley’s X account was hacked in April after he clicked a fake link sent via DM from a coworker whose account was already hacked.
The attacker changed the account’s name, telephone number, and email, and altered the handle to @DADDYPATRIOzvu then @Fatherokdwcjo63.
The account’s banner and avatar were changed to a black-and-white picture of Steve Bannon advertising WarRoom.org.
The hijacker demanded $2,000 in GAT crypto to return the account; when Bewley refused, the attacker demanded $3,000 from his employer, Ducati Studios Network.
Bewley’s partner reported the hack to X, but X later said it could not verify Bewley was the true owner.
Bewley filed a police report in Palm Springs and a report with the FBI.
Other creators targeted include Fabian Quezada (Buck Bronco), Liam Angell, Jasun Mark, and Gray Dickson.
The attacks occurred around the same time as an X purge campaign in April to remove fake, inactive, or spam accounts.
Rachel Tobac, CEO of SocialProof Security, said the problem could worsen with upcoming midterm elections and that cybercriminals may use AI to scale operations.
Open questions
It is unclear whether X took any action to restore Bewley’s account or investigate the hack, as X did not respond to a request for comment.
