Gauff loses to Potapova in French Open third round
Defending champion Coco Gauff was eliminated in the third round of the French Open, losing 4-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 to 28th seed Anastasia Potapova. Gauff won the opening set, but Potapova rallied with aggressive baseline hitting to take the next two sets. The match featured several momentum shifts, including Gauff winning four consecutive games in both the first and second sets before faltering. Potapova, who was born in Russia but now represents Austria, improved to 3-2 in her career against Gauff. Gauff said afterward that she was not capitalizing on certain shots and noted she lost in the same way as she did in Rome. Elsewhere, Naomi Osaka, Aryna Sabalenka, and others advanced to the fourth round.
