Guillermo del Toro stated at San Diego Comic-Con that no artificial intelligence was used in the 3D conversion of "Pan's Labyrinth" for its 20th anniversary re-release. The filmmaker said he converted the film into 3D by hand, making a deliberate choice to avoid AI. Del Toro told the audience, "Obviously I said, 'Absolutely no goddamn AI,'" a remark that drew applause. He explained that the goal is to protect "the beauty and the redeeming power of art" and a "lineage of art." The re-release, which includes 3D and HDR versions, is scheduled for theaters on Oct. 9, with tickets available starting Sept. 9. Del Toro also teased a documentary about the original film's creation featuring Jacob Elordi, Cate Blanchett, and Charlie Day.
