According to a report from Eater, Amoroso’s Baking Co. has been producing bread for Philadelphia cheesesteaks for more than a century. The factory produces over 250 million cheesesteak and hoagie rolls each year, operating around the clock. Each 800-pound batch of dough yields 2,500 rolls. The facility receives about 200,000 pounds of hard red spring wheat flour weekly. Rolls are fermented for several hours, then proofed, scored by hand, and baked in one of the largest ovens in an independent baking facility in the country. The rolls travel 135 feet for about 20 minutes before being packaged and delivered to grocery stores, sandwich shops, and Lincoln Financial Field.
