New ‘Pippi Longstocking’ Animated Series in Development

StudioCanal, Heyday Films, Submarine, and the Astrid Lindgren Company are developing a new animated TV series based on the literary character Pippi Longstocking. The 52 x 11-minute 3D CGI animation is described as a fresh, modern reboot, with production set to begin in October. StudioCanal will handle worldwide distribution, while StudioCanal Kids & Family will oversee merchandising and licensing in France and the U.K. The series will be written by award-winning screenwriter Sara Daddy, whose credits include "The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland." The companies are also in development on a "Pippi Longstocking" feature film. The project marks a major new chapter for the screen franchise, which celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2025.

StudioCanal is also developing a feature film based on "Mr. Men Little Miss" books and reteaming with Aardman Animation for "Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom."
