Scotland’s McTominay available for Haiti World Cup opener after illness
Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has confirmed that midfielder Scott McTominay is "perfect and ready to go" for the team's World Cup opener against Haiti, after recovering from an upset stomach. The 29-year-old Napoli player missed training on Thursday due to a slight illness and traveled separately from the squad to Boston as a precaution, accompanied by a doctor. He participated in training on Friday. Clarke emphasized that while McTominay's availability is welcome, the team's success depends on the entire squad, stating he has "26 superstars" and that the team has been built on collective effort over the last seven years. Centre-back Scott McKenna will miss the Haiti match due to a calf issue and has not trained this week, though he is expected to return to training on Monday. Scotland, making their first World Cup appearance in 28 years, will face Haiti on Saturday at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, with additional group-stage matches against Morocco and Brazil.
