DoorDash launches AI chatbot for ordering with text and photos

7 reported

DoorDash announced on Thursday the launch of a new AI chatbot called “Ask DoorDash” that allows users to order food and groceries using text prompts and photos. The chatbot enables users to search the app in their own words rather than scrolling through restaurants and stores to build a cart. Users can tell the chatbot what they are in the mood for, share a recipe link to find items, or describe a reservation they are looking for. The app can build a grocery cart based on a photo from a cookbook, a picture of a grocery list, or a recipe, and will prompt users to check if they already have staples like sugar and butter. For food orders, users can ask for a “filling dinner for a family of 4” and the app will surface restaurants with a personalized explanation. The chatbot is rolling out on iOS in select regions for restaurant search, grocery shopping, and within DoorDash Reservations, with a wider U.S. rollout planned in the coming weeks.
