Waymo has purchased a 5,500-acre proving ground in Wittman, Arizona, for $220 million from Route 14 Investment Partners LLC, a Delaware shell company associated with Apple, according to documents filed with Maricopa County. The sale was recorded June 5, and Waymo confirmed the transaction to TechCrunch. The facility, which Apple bought in 2021 for $125 million, was previously used by Fiat Chrysler for hot-weather testing. Apple had used the site for its Project Titan self-driving car effort, which was canceled in early 2024. Waymo plans to use the Arizona location for rider-only testing, motion control testing, operational training, and future testing expansion. The purchase adds to Waymo’s existing test courses in California and Ohio. Waymo is currently expanding its fleet of nearly 4,000 vehicles and recently began offering rides in a new van made by Zeekr.
