Amazon expands UK same-day grocery and ultra-fast delivery
Amazon is expanding its fast-track delivery services in the UK, including adding fresh fruit and vegetables to same-day deliveries, after closing its standalone grocery stores. The company said it will expand Amazon Now, its ultra-fast delivery service that delivers goods in under 30 minutes in parts of London, to Manchester and Birmingham this year. Same-day delivery services will also be extended to Ipswich and Coventry, and shoppers in London will be able to add fresh groceries to same-day deliveries, a service trialled in the US. The service will initially be available in parts of central and east London, with plans to expand to more postcodes and areas across the country. Amazon is also increasing its use of robotics in warehouses, including AI-empowered voice-controlled machines, to enable faster deliveries. The company’s Darlington fulfilment centre has begun trialling drone flights as the first UK location for its Prime Air delivery service.
