Liverpool owner FSG in talks to sell 30% stake to Bhatia consortium for £1.35bn
Fenway Sports Group, the owner of Liverpool Football Club, is in negotiations to sell a 30% minority stake to a consortium led by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia, with an offer of approximately £1.35bn on the table. The Guardian reports that the deal would value Liverpool at about £4.5bn, based on a statement FSG provided to the Financial Times confirming the talks. Bhatia’s consortium is backed by his father-in-law, billionaire Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, whose family has an estimated net worth of £23bn. FSG, which paid £300m for the club in 2010, has previously held discussions over a minority sale without reaching an agreement. Bhatia resigned as a director of QPR on Tuesday after 19 years, indicating the seriousness of the bid. Industry sources expressed surprise at the £4.5bn valuation, but it aligns with recent deals, including Chelsea’s £4.25bn sale in 2022 and Manchester United’s £4.3bn valuation in 2024.
