Bea Elton cleans extreme homes and helps desperate homeowners
Bea Elton, a 28-year-old cleaner with more than six million followers across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, transforms homes that have fallen into extreme dirt and decay. She refers to herself as a cleaner, not a "cleanfluencer," and her channel CleanWithBea invites applications for free cleans from those most desperate. Elton, who has a degree in classics and previously worked in social media, began cleaning in 2023 after being made redundant and struggling with mould in her London flat. She now receives about 160 applications a month and has completed around 45 cleans, each taking between three days and two weeks. Elton says she is not a mental health professional but spends months building trust with homeowners, often liaising with local authorities, support workers and therapists. She explains that many homeowners struggle with shame, embarrassment and fear of judgment, and that depression can leave people desensitized to their surroundings. Elton says she understood the link between mental health and environment because she recognized patterns in herself, having struggled with her mental health since age 11.
