YouTube Short ‘Open Door’ Gets Feature Film Development Deal
Kevin Cate's viral sci-fi short film "Open Door" is being adapted into a feature-length film through a six-figure development deal, according to a report from Variety. The original short, which has nearly 15 million views across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram, follows two people on an elevator ride from hell. Cate wrote the spec script with Charles Spano, who wrote the screenplay for "IO." Sean Anthony Baker and Mia Matthews are set to reprise their roles from the original three-minute short. The film is in development with executive producer Rick Kearney and Cate's Clinging Vine Films, the same venture that produced Cate's upcoming debut "Unbearable Christmas," starring Julia Stiles, David Cross, and Stephen Root. Cate has launched a website giving clues and updates for fans, and the budgeting process is expected to be finished later this month as the crew continues raising money and considering additional casting options.
