Apple announced a long-awaited update to its digital assistant Siri at its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, aiming to more deeply integrate artificial intelligence into its operating systems. The company’s share price fell close to 2% after the news, with analysts saying the changes have potential but consumer reception remains to be seen. The new version, called Siri AI, will be accessible through a standalone app, the home screen search function, and other apps like Photos. It will be able to access cloud networks and the internet while being informed by a user’s personal device data such as email and text history. Apple executives demonstrated features including finding information online, giving recommendations, pulling addresses from texts or emails, and moving photos into albums. The update comes after repeated delays that raised questions about Apple’s commitment to AI, as other tech companies have invested heavily in chatbots and agents. Siri AI will be available to U.S. customers later this year in English, with other languages coming soon, but not immediately in the European Union or China due to international regulations.
