Startup Battlefield Top 20 Selection Process and Benefits Explained

TechCrunch has extended the application deadline for this year’s Startup Battlefield cohort to June 8, 2026. The program selects a Top 20 from a larger Startup Battlefield 200, with companies chosen based on having meaningfully different, category-defining ideas capable of major impact. Selected companies pitch live for six minutes on the Disrupt Stage and face Q&A with investors such as Aileen Lee and Kirsten Green. Five of the Top 20 advance to pitch again on the final day, with the winner receiving $100,000 in equity-free prize money and the Disrupt Cup. Companies not initially selected for the Top 20 remain eligible to join as the list is kept confidential until the event. All 200 companies in the cohort receive a funded demo booth, event passes, virtual program access, pitch preparation, and an invitation to a private reception. Even applicants not selected receive discounts on Disrupt tickets and partner resources. The alumni community includes over 1,700 companies such as Dropbox, Discord, and Cloudflare, which have collectively raised $32 billion and produced more than 250 exits.
