Authentic Brands Chairman Details New Approach to Celebrity Estate Management
Authentic Brands Group founder and executive chairman Jamie Salter says the business of managing celebrity estates has changed significantly in the 15 years since the company became caretaker of Marilyn Monroe’s legacy. Salter stated that the company now views itself as a steward of cultural intellectual property rather than simply an owner of brands or estates. He described the modern blueprint as building a “modern cultural ecosystem” around a personality through storytelling, partnerships, experiences, content and digital engagement. Authentic Brands used Monroe’s centennial year as an opportunity to re-examine her life and legacy through a contemporary lens. The company is working on a short film about Monroe with a notable but unnamed director. It also served as a producer on Baz Luhrmann’s concert film “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert” and has teamed with Michael B. Jordan for a limited series Ali biopic titled “The Greatest” for Amazon Prime Video. Salter emphasized that the company is selective, focusing on assets with emotional resonance and the ability to live across content, media, experiences and lifestyle categories.
