Trump proposes MAGA rally after artists drop from July 4 event

President Trump has suggested replacing a planned concert for America’s 250th birthday celebration with a Make America Great Again rally after several announced performers withdrew from the lineup. The Great American State Fair, organized by the public-private group Freedom 250 in partnership with the White House, is scheduled to begin June 25 on the National Mall. Artists who have dropped out include Martina McBride, Morris Day and the Time, The Commodores, and Poison’s Bret Michaels. McBride posted on social media that she was told the event was nonpartisan but later found that claim “misleading.” Vanilla Ice said he will still perform, calling the event a celebration of America’s birthday rather than a political platform. Trump called the departing performers “Third Rate” and later wrote that the event should be canceled and replaced with a rally. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stated on CNN’s State of the Union that the events are nonpartisan and deflected a question about donor transparency. Democratic lawmakers and the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington have questioned the source of private donations for the celebration.
