Priyanka Chopra Jonas ‘Varanasi’ Images Released for Birthday
Two character stills of Priyanka Chopra Jonas from director S.S. Rajamouli's upcoming film "Varanasi" were released Saturday to mark the actor's birthday. The film spans thousands of years and multiple continents, with locations including Antarctica, Africa, and the titular Indian city. Mahesh Babu plays dual roles as protagonist Rudhra and Hindu God Rama, while Chopra Jonas plays a character named Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the main antagonist Kumbha. Rajamouli told Variety that the character of Mandakini required an actor who could be both "kick-ass" and "vulnerable," and he praised Chopra Jonas for her performance. The film marks Chopra Jonas' return to Indian cinema after Hollywood projects including "Citadel" and "The Matrix Resurrections," and she described the production as career-defining. "Varanasi" is Rajamouli's follow-up to the Academy Award-winning "RRR," with MM Keeravani returning to score the film. The movie opens in theaters worldwide on April 7, 2027.
