Chase Koch discusses business, music, and social change in interview
In a conversation with Tyler Cowen, Chase Koch discussed his early business ventures, his work with Stand Together, and the evolution of Koch Industries. Koch described starting a boom-box business at age 15 from his parents’ garage with a friend, which introduced him to gangster rap artists like Public Enemy, N.W.A., and Snoop Dogg. He explained that Stand Together is an organization focused on removing barriers in education, regulation, and criminal justice to drive social change. Koch noted that his father has worked on social change for 60 years and that during COVID, he proposed using music to reach the next generation. He also stated that only 4 percent of capital consumed at Koch is in refining, where his grandfather started the company, and that the company now touches forest products, consumer products, software, glass manufacturing, and fertilizers.
