Period tracker Stardust shares health data with analytics firm, Mozilla finds
New research from Mozilla found that period tracker Stardust shares users’ sensitive health information with third-party analytics company RudderStack. The data shared includes birthdate, birth control type, reproductive goals, and specific symptoms, tied to a unique identifier rather than a name. Mozilla security researcher Shoshana Wodinsky analyzed network traffic of six period trackers and found Stardust was the only one sharing such data. A Stardust spokesperson stated that RudderStack is contractually prohibited from selling or using the data for its own purposes. Stardust founder Rachel Moranis did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment. Mozilla recommended Euki as a privacy-friendly alternative, noting it did not share data with third parties.
