Paul Gambaccini reveals Alzheimer’s diagnosis, continues broadcasting

7 reported

Radio and TV broadcaster Paul Gambaccini has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, according to a statement he shared. The 77-year-old presenter, a regular on the BBC since the 1970s, received the diagnosis in 2025. Gambaccini said life goes on as normal and he continues to broadcast, adding that he is grateful for kindness he has received and has been supported by the Alzheimer’s Society. He still presents the Paul Gambaccini Collection on BBC Radio 2 every Sunday and hosts shows on Greatest Hits Radio. Michelle Dyson, chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Society, said Gambaccini’s experience shows there can be life after a dementia diagnosis and that sharing his diagnosis may encourage others to spot symptoms. The article also notes Gambaccini was caught up in the aftermath of Operation Yewtree and in 2018 won a payout from the Crown Prosecution Service over an unfounded case regarding historical sexual abuse allegations.
