Spanish film-TV director Álex de la Iglesia is set to make his animation debut with the feature film “Ages of Madness: The Howling of the Jinn,” according to a single-source report from Variety. The project is set up at Canary Islands’ 3Doubles Producciones and Bizkaia-based Sumendi Uhartea. 3Doubles describes the film as “the first major adult 3D animation production to fully adapt the complex universe of H.P. Lovecraft for the big screen.” Production is scheduled to begin in late 2026. The story weaves several “tragically intertwined stories” linked by Lovecraft’s fictional forbidden book, the “Necronomicon,” which travels through time across four historical and geographical settings. De la Iglesia, who was a comic book artist in his youth, said the project allows him to reconnect with his roots. 3Doubles CEO Darío Sánchez stated that the project represents a turning point for the Spanish animation sector.
